Rugged Norse culture information
The rugged Norse culture is influenced by the rugged mountains and deep fjords. Generations of Norwegians have made the most of their country and its generous natural resources. Norway has learned the importance of living in harmony with nature. The long nights and sparse population have formed the Norse culture.
Music and dance too have had a big part of the culture. Ole Bull brought the Hardanger Fiddle into its own and gave it to Norway. Edvard Grieg bought the classics. The availability of wood products made the Viking age a reality. Their far reaching adventures brought products back from trading. The over abundance of fish made trading possible. In the 1960s the North Sea propelled Norway into the 20th century, with one of the highest standards of living in Europe. The Gulf Stream on the western coast made life tolerable .

Carl Larsson: information and books on him
One of Sweden's best loved artists, Carl Larsson, is best known for his pastel water color paintings (1853-1896). His paintings served as a snapshot of the daily life of the family home in that time period in Sweden. Larsson was thought of by many as having been a little too brash, superficial, off-hand and even shallow in his art. Nowadays, a few decades removed, he enjoys broad popularity.
