The Viking period was something more than an era of violence and barbaric customs. The Kings surrounded themselves with artists of various kinds,and it was a point of honour for the kings themselves to be able to handle artistry. The saga tell us that Olav the Holy,which interoduced Christiany, carved the dragon's head on one of his longships. Olav the Holy and his Viking men are the inspiration of the Royal Pewter pattern.
